Measurement 3 (QSB 2115)

Mr. Soon is a very measurement lecturer i ever met before. During the lecture class, Mr soon explained to us item by item, make us more understood what he was teaching. In additional, we were very enjoying during the lecturer.

Besides that, we were able to ask question about measurement through Facebook and Mr.Soon will reply us either using Facebook or during the class. From the measurement 3 i was able to differentiate and measure different types of doors, windows, roof structure and steel structure as well.

The assignment for the measurement 3 was a group assignment. Through the assignment, we just realised and understood the difference about windows and doors in the building.

Construction Technology 3 (QSB2514)

This is the second times Mr. Chiew taught us. Construction technology 3 was about the IBS, pre-stressing and green building. From this unit, we were able to understand how IBS function and/or advantages of using IBS method.

Nowadays, people are going green. After the lecture class we understood it was really hard to construction a green building. It will involve engineers, architects, town planners and also the builders.

This semester, mr Chiew did lots of revisions with us. For example, asking questions, revision about the midterm topic and also the final exam topic.

The assignment for the unit is very interesting too. We went to the IBS factory. Through the visit, we understand how a IBS component cast out in the factory. The engineers in the factory also explain to us how the machines work.

Building Services 2 (QSB2714)

Mr Kam is a good lecturer even building services is a boring topic. From this unit, we were able to know how important of these system in the building - air conditioning system, fire protection system, vertical transport and electricity. During the tutorial class, lecturer will do the revision with us.

The assignment for the building services was finding a building, understands the services in the building and recommended some improvement enable to improve the system into a better way. the building that our group chose was HC Precast Company Office. 

I had good group members. They taught me and explained to me about the assignment. I am very glad on them. I hope i cam have same group member on next semester assignment.

Management Science (QSB 2414)

There are two lecturers in charge in management science which are Ms.Liza and Ms. Habizah.

Ms. Liza prepared the midterm test for us and Ms. Habizah prepared about the assignment. At the beginning of this semester, Ms Habizah recommended all of our class to go to Pulau Langkawi for the group assignment. However, not all of our course mates went to Pulau Langkawi due to the high cost for the trip.

For our group, we did not go to Pulau Langkawi too. Therefore, we did our assignment in Kuala Lumpur. We went to several hotels such as Putrajaya Shangri-La Hotel and Carcosa Seri Negara.

From this unit, i learnt how important of teamwork, time management, leadership and communication. In the assignment, we require a good leader. The communication between the team members and teamwork are very important. Besides, the time management is the most important part. We need to arrange the time enable for us to complete the work on time.

Personal Information

My name is Ling Wei Nie who from Miri, Sarawak. I’m studying semester 2 in Quantity Surveying at Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus. In this semester, I took 5 units in this semester which are Measurement 2, Construction Technology 2, Building Services 2, Site Surveying and Introduction to Law. I repeat Introduction to Law in this semester because I failed my Introduction to Law in the last semester. However, I still want to thanks to Taylor’s University allow me to take 5 units in this semester. 

Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus always create a lot event which related to Quantity Surveying in the campus allow student to get more experience or information about the future career. 

On 19^th and 20^th of April, I joined as a student helper of a conference that created by RISC-RISM-AALSM International Surveying Conference for Undergraduates 2013 in Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus. Really thanks to Taylor’s University to have this event at here and allow us to join as a student helper. This conference gives me a good experience and I would like to join this conference again in next semester. 

Measurement 2 (QSB1124)

From this unit, there are 2 lecturers in charge in this unit which are Mr Chee and Ms Habizah. In the beginning of the unit, Mr Chee taught us about the staircase structure and staircase finishes. To measure staircase is a bit difficult to me because there are lots of components have to calculate. Besides that, we have to imagine about the staircase from the drawing which given by the lecturer in order to measure a correct value of the staircase. 

We were having an assignment from the lecturer. It was a group assignment. From the assignment, we did learn and discuss about the staircase finishes together. We had an argument about the assignment during the discussion. We asked Mr Chee for clearer information in order to solve the problem we faced on to the assignment. Mr Chee completed to teach us about the staircase before the semester break.

On the week 8, Ms Habizah tough us about the wall elements, wall finishes, floor finishes and ceiling finishes. Ms Habizah is a lecturer who prepared everything for us before every lecture class. The lecture class paper that she prepared had included taking off paper, quarry sheet, dimension paper and Bill of Quantity as well. The papers she prepared are really helpful for the students. It makes us much clearer for everything that we learnt. Besides that, if we have anything that is not understood, Ms Habizah will give us more explain on the question.

The assignment that Ms Habizah gave is really difficult to do even though there are 2 people in a group. However, through the assignment I know that I am not hard work enough in order to do well in the final exam. Besides that, Ms Habizah will give us extra work as homework to let us do more practice before the final exam.
