Construction Technology 2 (QBS 1524)

Construction technology 2 is about the base knowledge of the fundamental principle of design and technology. This unit is more focus on the foundation of a building. From this unit, I learnt about the pile foundations, deep excavation, formwork, scaffoldings, shoring and underpinning, partition, suspended ceilings, portal frames, precast concrete and steel structure.

Mr Chiew is a really good lecturer. He gave us a lot explain about the construction technology according to his working experience. He used the tutorial class as a lecture class in order to complete the syllabus. Mr Chiew allowed all the students to go to the other tutorial class unless the student did come to the class. Sometimes, when I cannot remember what Mr Chiew teach in the previous class, and then I will attend to another tutorial class and listen to Mr Chiew to repeat about the topic once again. Because of the way Mr Chiew taught, I can able to understand what exactly will happen on the site. Mr Chiew loves students to ask question in the class. He said that don’t be shy to ask question in the class, that is the way for a student to study. Then student can able to get a good grade during the test.

Mr Chiew includes a lot of pictures in his note in order the students understand what actually happen in the construction site. It is a really good way for us to understand about the construction technology. I learnt a lot of things from the group assignment that Mr Chiew gave.

Assignment for our group is focus on the pile foundation. From the assignment, I learnt about how to communicate to the project manager or engineer in the construction site. Besides that, I learnt the way to apply and asking for the permission to enter to a construction site. From the assignment, I know that the actually things that will happen to the construction site are different from the book learn.
